Aging is inevitable;
Try Botox Injections
Sooner or later, aging, the daily stresses of life, our genetics, the detrimental effects of the environment (such as UV sun damage) and our individual life choices (like, smoking and alcohol consumption) eventually catch up to us… and begin to take their toll on our bodies, and consequently our minds. These changes affect both men and women alike – physically and psychologically.
Our skin and hair are often the first places we begin to notice these changes. We may find ourselves looking more closely in the mirror – scrutinizing every line, crease, or sagginess. Wondering when and how they got there and worrying about what we can do about them along with our thinning or receding hairline. All of these changes can impact how we feel about ourselves, but that need not be the case. Nor should it be.
Perhaps you have tried every skin serum and cream imaginable. Hoping to unwind the hands of time and return your skin to its smooth and pre-existing suppleness. As well as every hair product on the market in an attempt to regrow thicker, fuller hair. Or perhaps you use them as a form of rejuvenation – a pre-emptive strike against Father Time, in an attempt to defer any additional changes in your appearance.
Topicals on their own can only penetrate the skin and scalp so deeply to address these concerns. Many products simply contain molecules that are too large to pass through the protective layers of the skin and scalp. And, for some, the notion of invasive surgeries, that come with medical risks, lengthier downtime, higher price tags, and uncertain and irreversible outcomes can be daunting.

What is Botox®?
BOTOX® is a neuromodulator – it is used to affect the nervous system. It is the consumer brand name of a protein derived from the botulinum toxin, a neurotoxin produced by a bacterium that can be found in nature, like soil, dust, and water.
When used in small doses, neuromodulators temporarily relax muscles – in this case, those muscles in the face and neck responsible for wrinkles, by blocking nerve signals. Over time, muscle contractions, in the form of repetitive facial expressions, contribute to the signs of aging – think frown lines and crow’s feet. However, precise BOTOX® injections, into targeted areas, can block signals to weaken or relax those muscles, preventing or limiting contraction and providing for a gradual smoother, younger look.
BOTOX® is a non-surgical procedure and requires anesthesia. It has been utilized for decades. Approved by Health Canada and other food and drug administrations around the world, BOTOX® injections are regarded as a safe and successful method of treatment. Millions of men and women include it as part of their anti-aging regime. Side effects are rare, and your doctor will happily discuss any concerns you may have to help you make an informed decision on whether or not BOTOX® is ideal for you.
Where is Botox® Applied?
BOTOX® has a variety of cosmetic uses. It can effectively soften
- Crow’s feet
- Under-eye lines
- Frown lines or Glabellar lines (as known as the “11” lines between the brows)
- Forehead lines
- Masseters or square jaw (for facial contouring, and to help prevent teeth grinding)
- A gummy smile
- A dimpled chin
- Bunny or Nasalis lines (nose scrunch)
- Lip lines (smokers’ lines)
- Necklines or bands
- Upper Lip (boost your pucker)
- Droopy eyelids (eye lift for a wider livelier look)
- Droopy brow (brow lift)
- Downturned lips (giving you a smile lift, upturning the corners of the mouth)
What can I Expect from Botox Injections?
BOTOX® is minimally invasive and injections are virtually painless, with some patients feeling just a slight pinch or sting with initial insertion. Apart from this minor discomfort, there is no downtime, and most patients return to work or get on with their day. Some minor swelling or redness, and rarely slight headaches, may occur.
Depending on the number of injection sites, the procedure takes approximately 10-15 minutes, with results beginning to show in just a few days, improving for up to a month, and lasting upwards of 3-5 months. Individual results may vary.
So, if you’re looking to get rid of that “angry” furrowed look that seems to be etched on your face, smooth out your forehead, lift your smile and soften lines, or help keep them from forming, then BOTOX® may be the solution for you.
Is there any pre-treatment prep?
It is recommended that you refrain from wearing makeup, on or near treatment areas, to your appointment, otherwise, we will remove it to provide a clean and sterile canvas.
In order to prevent bruising be sure to avoid:
Alcohol 2 days before treatment
Aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid or ASA), Ibuprofen, Naproxen, or any Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) 1 week before and 2 days after any treatments. Unlike acetaminophen, they may cause blood thinning.
Vitamin E (especially in large doses), garlic, omega 3, and St. John’s Wort supplement, or any other herbs or supplements that may cause blood thinning.
Arnica supplements may help to prevent bruising.
Post Treatment Care?
Treatments are minimally invasive and require little downtime.
However, it is recommended that you AVOID:
- Touching treatment areas following injections
- Sleeping on any treated areas for a few days. Sleep on your back instead.
- Smoking and/or drinking from a straw for a few days (to minimize movement).
- Engaging in excessive exercise immediately following treatment.
- Any over-the-counter medications, herbs, or supplements that may cause blood thinning (see PRE-TREATMENT care for list), for a couple of days.
Light make-up may be applied following your treatment, to help conceal any discolouration, like bruising or redness. An ice pack can help to reduce any swelling.
We suggest you always wear sunscreen whenever you are exposed to UV rays, to protect your skin and prolong your beautiful and well-deserved results!
